Woman Buys a Bank Building, Transforms It To Her New Home

National Bank of Spring City

When a former bank teller quits her job at the National Bank of Spring City in Spring City, PA 20 years ago, she wouldn’t thought that she would come back at the bank, buy the building and claim it as her new home, literally!

After the bank closed down in 1989, Cathy Calhoun received call from her former boss and told her that the bank building is up for sale. Calhoun was told that the building is perfect for her jewelry business but because of the location, she thought that the building would be better suited for something else: her home.

After paying for the bank building, Calhoun then started working for the interior transformation. She carefully and artistically incorporated some of the bank’s original features and treasures into the décor. She preserves the majority of original layout while creating 3-bedrooms, 3-bathrooms and one special room found in the basement.

The 5,200 square foot building was originally built in 1872. In its years as a bank, it printed over $3 million of national currency, some of which can be found in the hands of collectors today. The exterior of the building is completely authentic, including its clock.

If given the chance to do, will you buy and live in a bank building too?
